Cimitarra is a warm town where the Carare Indians used to live. During the years of the colony, one of the Spanish conquerors lost his scimitar (a curved sword) while they were looking for new river routes and when they went back to look for it, they found it in the hands of the Indigenous tribes. Upon finding what was a strange and new object for them, they decided to worship it. The conquerors decided to leave it there and since then this region has been known as the Valley of the Scimitar.
